Pregnancy Massage in Auckland: What to Expect at Your First Appointment
If you’ve never booked a pregnancy massage before, it’s normal to have questions, how it’s different from a regular massage, how you’re positioned, and whether it’s right for you at your stage of pregnancy. Here’s what to actually expect.
How is it different from a regular massage?
The biggest difference is positioning. You won’t lie flat on your stomach. Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, you’ll usually be positioned on your side with supportive cushions, or in a modified position that keeps you comfortable and well supported throughout. Pressure is generally gentler than a standard deep tissue session, and your therapist will check in with you regularly about comfort.
What should I mention before booking?
Always let us know how many weeks pregnant you are when you book, along with anything your doctor or midwife has told you about your specific pregnancy. This isn’t a formality, it genuinely changes how your session is set up.
Is it safe?
This is a conversation to have with your doctor or midwife first, not something we can advise on. Many people do enjoy massage at various stages of pregnancy, but every pregnancy is different, so please get the go-ahead from your own healthcare provider before booking, particularly in the first trimester.
What should I wear?
Whatever’s comfortable to arrive and leave in. You’ll be given fresh linens and appropriately draped throughout the session, the same as any other massage.
How long is a typical session?
Sessions are generally shorter and gentler than our standard treatments. Ask when booking and we’ll talk you through timing and pricing.
